Battlestar Galactica Love

I haven’t posted anything for a while…

That’s because I’ve been watching all four seasons of Battlestar Galactica (I also been a wee bit busy at work)!!

To those unfamiliar with the series, here’s a brief premise;

A civilization of humans live on a series of planets known as the Twelve Colonies. With their advanced technology, these humans created robots, called Cylons, to use as slaves. Like any good science fiction story, these robots became self-aware and decided that being slaves sucked. So they rebelled.

After sometime the Cylons developed the technology to make themselves look like humans, giving up their cool robot powers like super sight, super hearing and not to mention hands that turn into fucking machine guns, in the process. But it’s not all bad. They get to look like this:

Then with the unwitting help of a human named Gaius Baltar (a.k.a. The horniest man in existence), the Cylons launch a sudden sneak attack on the Colonies, laying waste to the planets and devastating their populations. The approximately 50,000 human survivors flee into space aboard any spacecraft they can reach. Of all the spacecrafts to escape, the Battlestar Galactica was the only military ship that survived the attack. Under the leadership of Commander William Adama and President Laura Roslin, the Galactica and its crew take up the task of leading the small migrant fleet of survivors into space in search of the legendary thirteenth colony, Earth.

What can I say, this show is fucking awesome!!!! I breezed through the whole 4 seasons in two weeks. The last time I fell totally in love with a TV series was the first season of Heroes. After the first season, Heroes let me down in a big fucking way, but not Battlestar Galactica. It was fantastic from beginning to end. I love everything about this show.

I love the cast. The badass Colonel Saul Tigh’s my favorite by the way.

I love the soundtrack, especially the cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower”. I love it sooooo much that I just have to embed it as my very first Youtube video.

But what I loved the most was the story. Unlike other science fiction series where tons of time is alloted to the explanation of the technology, the culture etcetera, BSG is all about character interactions, character development and pushing the story along at a steady pace. Don’t get me wrong, I love it when the technology of a series is explained in detail, but that’s because I’m a nerd. Regular people don’t give a shit how an FTL (Faster than Light) Drive theoretically works or what the limitations and capabilities of a Transporter (the thing that beams people in Star Trek) actually are.

Battlestar Galacttica is science fiction for the masses. Anyone can watch this series and appreciate it not only as great science fiction, but also as a great show.

Watch this series people. You will not be disappointed.

10 movies I can watch over and over

There are certain movies that I can watch several times and still be entertained the nth time just as much as the first time I watched them. Not every good movie has this quality. You can watch an amazing movie once, but not watch it again (or if you do, you won’t watch it immediately). A good example for me would be Inception. Like I said before, Inception is an awesome, awesome movie. But it is also a mentally exhausting film. If you ask me to watch the movie again I’d probably decline (at least for now). In other words, you can’t expect me to watch Schindler’s List or Citizen Kane again and again and not go fucking insane.

But there are movies I can watch over and over without losing my mind. I can watch some movies multiple times; from monday to saturday, and still watch the damn flick when HBO shows it again for the umpteenth time on Sunday.

With that said, here are those movies!

The Incredibles

The incredibles is still my favorite super hero movie hands down and I can watch it until the end of time! And yes, for me The Incredibles IS better than Spiderman, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and Iron man. Don’t agree with me? Too bad. Make your own damn list.

Nacho Libre

The eagle eggs were a lie! They give me no Eagle Powers! They give me no Nutrients!“I laugh my ass off every single time. And I have watched this movie numerous times.I fucking love this movie! For me Nacho Libre is Jack Black at his very best. If you have to see one Jack Black movie, this is fucking it my friends.

I know, i know,  I said The Incredibles > Ironman. But Ironman is still an awesome movie to watch multiple times.

Jerry Maguire

Part romantic comedy, part satire, part sports movie, all awesome. Jerry Maguire is in my mind Tom Cruise’s finest work. He actually got nominated for a best actor oscar for this film. Too bad he didn’t win. Maybe he’d be less of a psycho now if he did.

Who the fuck am I kidding…

Any Rocky movie except Rocky 5

I have the movies’ OSTs in my IPOD. Nothing pumps me up more than a rocky balboa training montage.

First Blood

To those who are unfamiliar with this movie, First Blood is Rambo 1. But only noobs call it Rambo 1. Rambo 1 is awesome!

Yes, the costumes are matrix ripoffs. Yes, the plot is a bit absurd. But still, you have to love a movie that calls shooting people “gun-kata” and policemen grammaton clerics. NERDGASM!!!

Oh yeah!

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Shake and Bake again and again!

Street Fighter: The Movie

This movie is so god damn horrible that its awesome. In order to appreciate Street Fighter the movie, you have to see it as a parody, not an adaptation. With that frame of mind, this movie is a laughaton. My favorite lines from the movie? There are soooo many. But I have to pick this:

Chun Li: You and your bullies were driven back by farmers with pitchforks! My father saved his village at the cost of his own life. You had him shot as you ran away! A hero… at a thousand paces.

Bison: I’m sorry. I don’t remember any of it.

Chun Li: You don’t remember?

Bison: For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

Gorgeous is a Honkong movie starring Jackie Chan and Shu Qi. It’s basically a romantic comedy BUT with kung fu. That’s a recipe for a great movie if I ever saw one. In fact, I propose all romantic comedies have kung fu.

If they did I’d watch all of them.

Zoolander’s Renaissance

I was just wondering, the film Zoolander came out ages ago, so why is it just now everyone is doing Blue Steel? What’s Blue Steel? It’s Ben Stiller’s “pose” in the movie. It’s a parody of how male models pose for the camera.

This look:

It is all the rage now. Celebrities are doing it.

So its 100% guaran-damn-teed that everyone else is doing it too. Browse through your Facebook friends and its likely you’ll encounter someone doing our favorite male model’s signature pose (By the way, I’m not stupid enough to grab some Facebook photos and post them here… In case you’re wondering why I didn’t post any). Apparently, it’s called the duckface now. Duckface my ass, I know a fucking Blue Steel pose when I see one.

What blows my mind though is that the movie intended the pose to be funny.

Derek Zoolander’s Blue Steel pose is intentionally stupid. The fact that the  people in the movie’s world thought that the look was simply fabulous was what made it even funnier. When you watched the movie way back in 2001 and you saw Zoolander do Blue Steel you probably said something like this to your friend; “Oh my fucking god! That pose is so fucking stupid“. Then your friend probably said; “I know right!? He looks so god damned ridiculous, its fucking hilarious!

But After 9 short years, the blue steel/duckface pose is being done not in jest, but with the intent of actually making yourself look good for a picture… For real.

Are you fucking kidding me!? After less than a decade our perception of what is attractive has shifted that dramatically! What was once hilarious is now hot! What is our world coming to?! My head hurts.

I’m getting too old for this shit.
